Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Wednesday (15/4/2026) that a request from the United States for official overflight clearance within Indonesian airspace remains under intensive review and has not been granted.

Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang emphasized that Indonesia maintains a strict policy against providing foreign entities unrestricted access to its sovereign skies. The evaluation process prioritizes national interests and the country's long-standing "free and active" foreign policy doctrine.

"There is no policy that grants foreign parties free access to use Indonesian airspace," she said, as reported by antaranews.com.

The proposal surfaced following the signing of the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership (MDCP) in Washington recently, though officials clarified the agreement does not include automatic flight permits. The Ministry of Defense noted that while military collaboration is expanding through technology sharing and professional education, overflight rights remain a sensitive bilateral issue. Indonesia continues to vet the proposal through national legal mechanisms to ensure all defense cooperation strictly upholds territorial integrity.
