Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has confirmed the deployment of 780 Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for the troop rotation scheduled for 22 May 2026 to replace the existing Indonesian contingent currently serving in the region.
“The plan is for the 22nd (of May). (As many as) 780 soldiers will depart for UNIFIL,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono said on Tuesday (12/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
He said that while Indonesia remains committed to its constitutional mandate for world peace, the safety of peacekeepers is non-negotiable. This deployment followed the loss of three Indonesian soldiers in March. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang noted that Indonesia is continuing to press the UN for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into that incident to ensure enhanced protection for personnel on the ground.
