Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur is taking urgent action to assist 37 Indonesian citizens involved in a shipwreck off the coast of Pangkor Island, Perak, Malaysia.
The vessel, which sank early Monday morning, was reportedly carrying undocumented workers when it encountered distress.
"The Indonesian Embassy has communicated with the Malaysian Marine Police regarding the handling of Indonesian victims," the Embassy said in an official release on Tuesday (12/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Out of the 37 passengers, 23 have been rescued by local fishermen and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), while 14 remain missing. Malaysian authorities have deployed the KM GAGAH and BENTENG 1203 vessels for an intensive search and rescue operation. Meanwhile, Indonesian officials are seeking consular access to support the survivors currently held in Manjung for further investigation. The embassy continues to monitor the search for the remaining victims.
