Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia will establish a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) battery research center in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said on Monday (29/7/2024).

He revealed the plan during the International Battery Summit in Jakarta, emphasizing the initiative to advance the nation’s role in the EV industry, according to antaranews.com. 

Minister Luhut said that the new center will complement existing research and involve collaborations with top Indonesian universities and Chinese researchers.

To support the initiative, around 42 Indonesian youths will be trained in China to gain expertise in the industry. Indonesia is developing a battery recycling industry in Morowali, integral to its green industry goals.

Airlangga Hartarto, the Head of the National Special Economic Zone Council, noted that Morowali’s Special Economic Zone focuses on green nickel industry advancements with significant investments and job creation.
