Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia’s U-23 national football team retained the top spot in Group A of the 2025 AFF U-23 Championship after a 1-0 victory over the Philippines on Friday night (18/7/2025) at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

The only goal came from a first-half own goal by Philippine defender Jaime Rosquillo, according to antaranews.com.

The win followed Indonesia’s 8-0 demolition of Brunei in their opening match, giving them a three-point lead over both the Philippines and Malaysia. Malaysia had earlier earned their first win in the tournament by thrashing Brunei 7-1, with Muhammad Haqimi Azim scoring twice.

The final group matches will take place on 21 July 2025, with Indonesia facing Malaysia and the Philippines taking on Brunei. Only the three group winners and the best runner-up will advance to the semifinals.
