Inp.polri.go.id - Purwakarta.  The Army will expand its Agroforestry Program across various regions in West Java to strengthen national food security and generate new employment opportunities.

Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak made the announcement during a major harvest event for the Horticultural Agroforestry Program in Purwakarta on Saturday (6/7/2025).

“This agroforestry initiative aims to support national food resilience and create new jobs,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Commander Maruli emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to improve public welfare through sustainable agricultural and livestock development. Partnerships with West Java administration have enabled infrastructure support, such as road development and clean water access.

The program's success, he said, relies heavily on collaboration with state-owned enterprises, including PT Pupuk Indonesia and PTPN.

So far, around 5,000 families have participated in the program. Each family is expected to manage up to 1 hectare of land in the future, potentially earning above the regional minimum wage.

The program is set to expand across West Java, targeting 200 hectares per location in areas such as Purwakarta, Cianjur, Pangalengan, Pangandaran, and Garut.

Purwakarta regency plans to replicate the initiative across multiple villages, with a target of at least 3 hectares per village.
