inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has announced that 1 Zulhijah 1446 Hijri/2026 AD falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, so Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
"Based on the results of calculations and reports of the crescent moon, it has been agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri falls on Monday, May 18, 2026, so Eid al-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026," said Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar on Monday (5/18/2026).
This decision was made following the results of crescent moon sightings conducted from 88 different locations across Indonesia.
Based on the monitoring results, the crescent moon has exceeded the criteria set by the Minister of Religious Affairs of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS) for the new Hijri month, which requires a crescent moon altitude of 3 degrees and an elongation of 6.4 degrees.
Nasaruddin stated that this decision was the result of the rukyatul hilal report presented at the isbat (seeking of the crescent moon) meeting, which was discussed by scholars, community organization (ormas) figures, astronomy and astronomy experts, and other community leaders.
"The data was also synchronized with the hisab method, calculated mathematically and astronomically, and compiled by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' Rukyat Team some time ago," explained the Minister.
