Indonesians Evacuation from Palestine Awaits Safer Conditions

Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar.  Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, announced on Wednesday (11/10/2023) that the evacuations of Indonesian citizens from Palestine will be done after  it is safe to do so. " We have an evacuation plan, but the situation does not yet allow for movement," she said on the sidelines of the 1st High-Level Meeting of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum. In her efforts to ensure the safety of Indonesian citizens in Palestine, Minister Marsudi has reached out to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for support, particularly for those in the Gaza Strip, which has been heavily affected by Israeli military airstrikes. the Foreign Ministry has also actively communicating with various parties, including ICRC, for the evacuation of Indonesian citizens. In addition, Minister Retno has engaged with Brazil, currently presiding over the United Nations Security Council, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Philippines, which maintains an embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Ministry has instructed the Indonesian embassies in Amman, Beirut, and Cairo to monitor developments in the conflict area and take necessary measures to protect affected Indonesians. The Ministry has been working on a contingency plan for the evacuation of Indonesian citizens, considering various scenarios. This may involve evacuating them through neighboring countries like Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, which are closest to Palestine. According to the ministry's data, there are 45 Indonesians in Palestine, with 10 of them located in the Gaza Strip. The ministry also recroded 230 Indonesians engaged in religious tourism activities in various parts of Israel. As of Wednesday, there have been no reports of Indonesian citizens falling victim to the ongoing violence . (mg/inp/pr/nm)
