Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency has pledged full support for the government’s plan to crack down on illegal imports of used clothing, a trade seen as harming the domestic textile industry.

“We will support this one thousand percent. Whatever the government’s policy, we will back it and coordinate closely with Customs,” said Deputy Chief of INP Criminal Investigation Agency Inspector General Nunung Syaifuddin on Tuesday (5/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

He confirmed that law enforcement will act decisively against violations, both at sea and on land. His remarks came after Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced plans to strictly prohibit and enforce actions against illegal secondhand apparel imports.

The minister said such imports undermine the local garment sector, which provides long-term employment, while thrift traders only gain short-term benefits. The policy, he added, aims to revive Indonesia’s domestic textile and garment industries and strengthen consumer purchasing power through sustainable job creation.
