Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia will repatriate two British citizens convicted of drug offenses later this week under a bilateral practical arrangement with the United Kingdom, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra announced on Tuesday (4/11/2025).

“We have agreed with the UK government that they will be picked up within two or three days and flown from Denpasar to Dubai, then to the UK,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The two prisoners are Lindsay June Sandiford, a nearly 70-year-old death row inmate, and Shahab Shahabadi, who is serving a life sentence. Both were convicted by the Supreme Court for narcotics offenses and have served more than a decade in Indonesian prisons. Their return follows a deal signed by Yusril and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper in October.

While the UK requested their repatriation on health and humanitarian grounds, Minister Yusril noted that discussions on returning Indonesian citizens imprisoned in the UK “have not yet begun.”
