Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian National Police (INP)MChief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said on Thursday (14/8/2025) that the 13 August protest in Pati, Central Java, over a 250% hike in the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax remained under control despite outbreaks of violence.

“Although there were violence yesterday, the situation was under control,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He explained that the protesters seeking meetings with the regency’s council leadership were received and allowed to voice their demands.

Chief Sigitl urged demonstrators to remain calm and use legal channels to express their opinions, stressing that the police will always facilitate peaceful public expression.

Central Java Police confirmed one police vehicle was overturned and burned during the unrest. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

The demonstration saw residents demanding Pati Regent Sudewo’s resignation following the controversial property tax hike, which was later revoked after national government intervention.
