inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) continues to strengthen services and preparations for the public following the activity of Mount Sinabung in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.
As of Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., Mount Sinabung remained at Level III, or Alert, status.
Although the intensity of the crater smoke has decreased, the INP, along with the Karo Regency Government, the Indonesian National Military (TNI), the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Management (PVMBG), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and related agencies, continue to prepare to anticipate developing situations.
According to data from the North Sumatra Regional Police, Mount Sinabung's crater smoke was observed to be white to gray, rising 50 to 300 meters above the crater's summit.
Head of Public Information Bureau of INP Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the decrease in smoke intensity is not a reason to be complacent. The INP, along with all relevant agencies, continue to ensure the public receives protection and services.
"Although the intensity of the crater smoke has decreased, Mount Sinabung's status remains at Level III, or Alert. Therefore, we, along with the Karo Regency Government and the TNI, are continuing to strengthen our preparation. We ask the public to remain calm but vigilant, follow every instruction from officers, and refrain from entering areas declared dangerous," said Trunoyudo in a statement in Jakarta (9/3/2026).
As of this morning, 374 residents of Kuta Tengah Village remained at the Jambur evacuation site in Suka Tepu Village. The INP, along with the Karo Regency Government and the TNI, continue to ensure the safety and basic needs of the residents while they are in the evacuation site.
Assistance from the North Sumatra Regional Police Chief has also been distributed to affected residents in the form of blankets, snacks, drinks, and children's snacks.
In addition to meeting the community's basic needs, the police are also paying attention to the psychological well-being of affected children. The Karo Sub-regional Police Community Development Unit is conducting trauma healing for children at the evacuation site.
