Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) dispatched 148 joint personnel to Central Papua and North Maluku on Sunday (5/4/2026) to stabilize regions rocked by communal clashes and a fatal assault on a police officer.
"The INP has taken action by deploying additional units to strengthen security and handle volatile dynamics in both provinces," said INP Public Relations Division’s Head of Public Information Bureau Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, as reported by antaranews.com.
The deployment follows the death of Second Brigadier Juventus Edowai in Dogiyai and a violent inter-village conflict in North Maluku’s Central Halmahera, which resulted in burned residences and a house of worship. Specialist teams from the Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Criminal Investigation Agency and Internal Affairs arrived in Nabire via a chartered flight to spearhead the restoration of public order.
Authorities are currently prioritizing a humanistic approach alongside firm law enforcement against the perpetrators of violence. Police officials urged citizens to ignore provocative hoaxes, confirming that intensive investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the unrest while ensuring the safety of local communities through heightened patrols and regional mediation.
