Inp.polri.go.id - Padang. Indonesian National Police (INP) Deputy Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo confirmed on Thursday (4/12/2025) that a joint investigative team has been formed to probe suspected illegal logging linked to recent flash floods in West Sumatra.
“The INP Criminal Investigation Agency has established a team that will collaborate with the West Sumatra Police,” he said during a visit to the Ante Mortem Post at Bhayangkara Hospital in Padang.
Deputy Chief Dedi noted that investigators will conduct an in-depth review of alleged illegal activities after the disaster drew public attention.
“When the flash floods hit, the murky water did not only carry mud and water but also logs and timber,” he said, as cited by antaranews.com.
Flash floods in Padang recently intensified concerns over environmental degradation, prompting calls for strict enforcement. Deputy Chief Dedi said that the police “will not remain idle” and have already taken concrete steps.
