Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Bank Indonesia confirmed that cross-border QRIS transactions between Indonesia and Malaysia recorded the highest volume in ASEAN, underscoring regional confidence in the system’s speed and affordability.
“Indonesia–Malaysia cross-border QRIS transactions are the highest among all ASEAN countries,” said Widi Agustin, Bank Indonesia’s Representative in Singapore, during a tourism and payment connectivity promotion event hosted by the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang, as reported by antaranews.com on Thursday (4/12/2025).
From January to September 2025, inbound QRIS transactions from Malaysia exceeded 3.4 million, valued at Rp 775 billion. Outbound transactions from Indonesia reached 516,000, with a total value of Rp 178 billion. Indonesia’s QRIS is currently integrated with Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Japan, with upcoming expansion to South Korea, the UAE, and India.
Bank Indonesia emphasized the need to boost awareness among foreign tourists and expand domestic merchants capable of accepting cross-border QR payments to strengthen tourism competitiveness.
