Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have formed a strategic partnership to train a specialized disaster response unit named Muslim Disaster Rescue (MDR).

Announced at the INP Criminal Investigation Agency’s Building on Thursday (5/2/2026), the collaboration aims to enhance the technical rescue capabilities of the newly established team amidst a series of natural disasters across the archipelago.

"Because there are many disasters, we hope for cooperation between MUI and the National Police Chief... to create a rescue team within MUI," said MUI Deputy Chairman Marsudi Syuhud, as cited by antaranews.com

INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo welcomed the initiative, confirming that the police will provide intensive training and technical support to MDR personnel. MUI’s disaster response efforts involves other major religious organizations disaster initiatives, such as Muhammadiyah MDMC and Nahdlatul Ulama's LPBI. The partnership will be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focusing on rapid response and disaster management skills.
