Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Riau Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Office has blocked the entry of 80 tons of imported peanuts from Malaysia after laboratory tests revealed hazardous levels of aflatoxin.

The shipment, which arrived at Dumai Port aboard the KLM Putra Sorsel Mandiri shop on Tuesday, was found to contain toxin levels four times higher than the national safety threshold.

"This firm action is a form of state protection for national food security. Quarantine ensures that every food ingredient entering Indonesia is safe for consumption and meets quality standards," said Abdur Rahman, the Head of Riau Quarantine, on Thursday (5/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

Laboratory results showed the peanuts contained 80.46 µg/kg of aflatoxin, significantly exceeding the maximum limit of 20 µg/kg. Aflatoxin, a toxic compound produced by Aspergillus molds, is known to be carcinogenic and poses severe health risks, particularly to children and pregnant women.
