Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (INP) has initiated a drug user rehabilitation program, selecting five major regional police in major cities as pilot projects. Brigadier General Mukti Juharsa, Director of the Narcotics Crime Directorate of the INP's Criminal Investigation Agency, announced the initiative on Wednesday (13/3/2024), emphasizing the legal mandate for rehabilitation efforts. The selected regions include Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police, West Java Regional Police, Central Java Regional Police, East Java Regional Police, and North Sumatra Regional Police. During January to February 2024, over 1,000 drug users underwent rehabilitation across Indonesia, with priority given to these regions based on thorough analysis. Rehabilitation, mandated by Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, focuses on medical and social recovery for addicts and victims, regardless of legal implications. "We mustn't shy away from rehabilitation. Drug users require treatment," asserted Chief Mukti. In addition, the INP has established the Narcotics Eradication, Prevention, and Suppression Task Force (P3GN). From 21 September 2023, to 13 March2024, the P3GN Task Force arrested 21,676 suspects, with 17,710 under investigation and 3,996 undergoing rehabilitation. Moreover, 14,616 police reports on drug crimes were filed, with significant evidence seized, including methamphetamine, ecstasy pills, marijuana, cocaine, gorilla tobacco, and hard drugs.
