A Catholic priest from East Nusa Tenggara has made history by becoming the first Catholic figure to join the Indonesian National Police (INP) through the Police Inspector Candidate Program (SIPSS) for the 2024 term. Pastor Oktovianus Pelagian Ranta, a 29-year-old priest from the Ruteng Diocese in East Nusa Tenggara, has passed the selection and will continue his education for six months at the INP's Police Academy (Akpol Lemdiklat Polri) in Semarang, Central Java. A graduate of the Ritapiret Seminary, Pastor Oktovianus has dedicated himself to serving in the priesthood since his ordination in October 2023. Previously, Pastor Oktovianus served as an associate pastor at the Santa Familia Waenakeng Parish before being called to participate in the selection process at the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Headquarters. Despite initial surprise at the appointment, Pastor Oktovianus underwent each stage of the selection process with dedication. The SIPSS intake of 2024 required participants to undergo a series of rigorous tests and examinations, starting from administrative checks to competency and physical fitness tests. With his graduation, Pastor Oktovianus brings hope to both the religious community and society at large. The Head of the Human Resource Bureau of the East Nusa Tenggara Police, Senior Superintendent Satrya Yusada, welcomed Pastor Oktovianus's achievement, hoping that he would become a qualified police officer serving with integrity. SIPSS is a recruitment program for aspiring police officers to become the first officers of the INP. Upon graduation, students will become First Officers of the INP with the rank of Police Second Inspector. The INP accepted 100 individuals this year. (mg/ta/pr/nm)
