Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. THe Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Agency is investigating the cause of a deadly flash flood that hit Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Province, in late November 2025, amid suspicions of environmental crimes linked to land clearing.
“We are tracing the origin of the logs found at the site and matching them with upstream locations,” said Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, the Director of Certain Crimes at the Agency,, on Tuesday (6/1/2026) as reported by antaranews.com
The probe is led by the Directorate of Certain Crimes, which has designated Darul Mukhlisin Islamic boarding school as the crime scene, where large volumes of logs and sediment were discovered. Investigators suspect the materials originated from land-clearing activities in protected forest areas, potentially violating environmental regulations.
Authorities are also examining severe river sedimentation believed to have worsened flooding, damaging homes and public facilities. The findings may elevate the case to a formal criminal investigation if violations are confirmed.
