Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  In a decisive plenary session on Tuesday (27/1/2026), the House of Representatives officially approved eight key points for the Acceleration of Police Reform.

The most significant outcome of the 12th Plenary Session is the confirmation that the Indonesian National Police (INP) will maintain its current position directly under the authority of the President, rejecting proposals to place the institution under a specific ministry.

"The DPR has affirmed that INP’S position is under the President and is not a ministry. The Indonesian National Police Chief  will continue to be appointed and dismissed by the President with the approval of the DPR," stated Habiburokhman, the Chairman of Commission III, as cited by antaranews.com

The reform package, which has been signed by INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, also outlines a shift toward cultural reform and high-tech policing. The DPR has mandated the integration of human rights and democratic values into police education curricula and the mandatory use of body-worn cameras and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in investigations. Furthermore, the agreement solidifies the "bottom-up" budgeting process, ensuring that the operational needs of local working units, also known as Satker, are prioritized in financial planning.
