Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia National Police (INP)’s cybercrime directorate have transferred the case involving AI-generated deepfake videos of state officials to prosecutors.
Two suspects, identified as AMA and JS, are accused of creating manipulated videos impersonating high-ranking figures, including President Prabowo Subianto, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, to defraud victims through false claims of government aid.
Suspect AMA’s case was handed to the Central Lampung Prosecutor’s Office, while suspect JS's dossier is with the Attorney General’s Office. Police say investigations continue despite the arrests.
Another case surfaced in East Java, where deepfakes of East Java Governor Khofifah Indra Parawansa were used to lure victims with fake motorbike sale offers. Three suspects were arrested in Pangandaran, West Java.
Authorities warn the public to remain cautious and verify information through official sources.
“We urge people not to trust content blindly and always cross-check," said Cybercrime Director Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji.
Cyber patrols will be intensified to prevent misuse of AI in online fraud, police confirmed.
