inp.polri.go.id - Banjarmasin.  Vice Chairperson of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo is pushing for a sustainable tourism ecosystem and the establishment of an independent tourism institution through the discussion of the Tourism Bill.

Rahayu, when confirmed in Banjarmasin, Thursday, said that her commission is committed to intensively discussing the Tourism Bill during this session.

She explained that the bill is being formulated as a new legal basis that is able to build a sustainable national tourism ecosystem, then is firmly rooted in local culture and customs, and is in line with the international tourism code of ethics.

"We formulated this law to ensure that the development of the tourism sector is not only oriented towards economic growth alone, but also upholds the values of local wisdom and opens up the widest possible space for participation for the local community," said Sara, her nickname.

According to Rahayu, Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives also encouraged the establishment of an independent tourism promotion institution.

She explained that the institution is like the Indonesian Tourism Board, which can operate flexibly and does not depend on the State Budget (APBN).

According to her, this institution is expected to be the spearhead of the promotion of Indonesia's leading destinations on the international stage.

"It is time for Indonesia to have a professional, adaptive tourism promotion institution that is able to reach the global market effectively. The Ministry of Tourism needs a strategic partner that focuses on positioning and branding Indonesia as a world destination," she said.

Rahayu also stated that the Tourism Bill also opens up opportunities for multi-party synergy with a hexahelix approach - involving elements of government, academics, industry players, communities, media, and the Indonesian diaspora, namely to jointly shape the face of Indonesian tourism that is globally competitive but still has a local soul.
