The Jakarta Regional Agency for Disaster Management (BPBD) has established a 24-hour Quick Response Team (QRT) in every neighborhood across Jakarta to proactively address flood threats in line with warnings from the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). Executive Head of Jakarta's BPBD Isnawa Adji stated on Tuesday (7/11/23), "We have the QRT in place, comprised of 267 dedicated personnel for flood disaster management. They are on round-the-clock duty and fully prepared." He explained that the team is tasked with handling various disasters, including floods, conducting education, and evacuating residents in the event of flooding in the Jakarta area, as well as providing post-disaster response and monitoring. The Jakarta BPBD collaborates with the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB), BMKG, the Water Resources Agency (SDA), and the Fire and Rescue Agency (Gulkarmat) of the Jakarta Province, along with mayors/regents and relevant agencies involved in flood and disaster management. The Jakarta BPBD conducts inspections of facilities and equipment, including tents, boats, ring buoys, jackets, and lifebuoys. They then carry out disaster preparedness drills and tent setup simulations in 25 flood-prone neighborhoods, as well as several potentially vulnerable areas. He urged residents to remain vigilant and be prepared for potential hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, and strong winds in their respective areas. Jakarta residents are also advised to monitor the safety of their surroundings and be aware of the risks associated with each type of disaster in order to minimize them.
