Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The East Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police have prohibited residents from playing with firecrackers, especially during Ramadan, citing safety concerns and the risk of criminal sanctions if fires occur. Senior Superintendent Nicolas Ary Lilipaly, the Chief of the East Jakarta Police,  said on Sunday (17/3/2024) that the explosive potential of firecrackers causing fires could result in serious criminal charges. Firecrackers with high explosive power are considered dangerous explosives due to their potential for significant damage, as reported by antaranews.com To enforce the ban, East Jakarta Police conducted raids on firecrackers in the Jatinegara area at the beginning of Ramadan. However, no firecracker sales points were discovered during the raids. Inspector General Karyoto of the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police has issued a decree banning certain activities before and during Ramadan to maintain public order. Prohibited activities include convoying vehicles, playing with firecrackers, and gatherings during iftar and suhoor, pre-dawn meal consumed by Muslims before beginning their fast during, to prevent disruptions such as illegal racing and brawls.
