Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian tennis player Janice Tjen made history by winning her first WTA singles title at the Chennai Open, propelling her to world No. 53 , the highest ranking for an Indonesian in 23 years.
“It feels surreal to finally lift a WTA title for Indonesia after so long,” she said, as reported by antaranews.com on Monday (3/11/2025).
The 23-year-old surpassed former champion Angelique Widjaja’s best ranking of No. 55 and now trails only national legend Yayuk Basuki, who peaked at world No. 19. Her season record stands at 77-15, including six ITF titles and a WTA 125 trophy in Jinan, China.
Janice also claimed her second doubles crown of the year in Chennai, partnering compatriot Aldila Sutjiadi to defeat top seeds Storm Hunter and Monica Niculescu. Her doubles ranking soared to No. 85, marking a breakout year for Indonesian tennis.
