Inp.polri.go.id - Poso. A joint response team comprising the police, the military, local fire departments, and community members contained a 14-hectare land fire in Pendolo Village, South Pamona District, Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, on Sunda (13/9/2926).
Poso Military District Commander Lieutenant Colonel. Edi Yulian Budiargo reported that the fire was fully extinguished by 3.45 am local time following joint fire fighting efforts.
The fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, allegedly triggered by a discarded cigarette butt. Difficult terrain, strong winds, and dense smoke hindered early manual suppression efforts using backpack pumps.
Poso Sub-regional Police Head of Public Relations Assistant Senior Inspector Rianto Hilian confirmed that two firefighters were briefly hospitalized after inhaling heavy smoke.
Authorities deployed 146 officers, three fire engines, and specialized water pumps to extinguish the flames. No casualties or structural damages were reported, though police advised residents to avoid burning land or discarding flammable materials during dry conditions.
