Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. President Joko Widodo claims he did not take the harsh critiques from the press that he often gets personally. “I do often get harsh critiques, my face often got drawn uniquely or weirdly and they become the front page of the magazine and social media. They are so many of them, and I guess it is okay, I do not take them personally,” said the president when offering his remarks on the Commemoration of National Press Day on Tuesday (2/20/2024). However, it is instead his grandson who was angered by the ugly depiction of Jokowi’s face in social media. “Mbah, my grandson often called me mbah, ‘why did your face drawn ugly?’ he said. Well something like that. For me, it is part of my respect to the freedom of the press, freedom of expression, freedom of speech,” said Jokowi. Instead of offended, Jokowi was thankful for all media press who consistently accompany the public living in democracy. On the National Press Day, Jokowi emphasized that the government will continue to support the press ecosystem that is adaptive and continue to respect the freedom of press amidst the various challenges faced in the digital era.
