Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Tito Karnavian, cautioned against complacency despite Indonesia's absence of terrorist attacks in 2023, emphasizing the continued activity of terrorist groups. "We are grateful for the near absence of terrorist attacks presently, but we mustn't let our guard down. The networks are still active, and they persist in their efforts to establish connections," he said during the 2024 National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Working Meeting on Tuesday (20/2/2024). Minister Tito proposed the development of a more structured prevention program by the BNPT, stressing the importance of tailored initiatives based on individuals' exposure levels to terrorism. "I propose a program targeting recruiters and those influenced by takfiri and Salafi-jihadist ideologies. Additionally, a deradicalization program is crucial to moderate those who have become radicalized," he explained, referring to ideologies associated with terrorism. Addressing vulnerable groups like women, teenagers, and children, Minister Tito underscored the necessity of counter-radicalization efforts. He also emphasized the significance of promoting alternative ideologies such as Indonesian Islamic ideology, Pancasila, diversity, and pluralism, suggesting collaboration with knowledgeable academics and insiders for effectiveness. Furthermore, Minister Tito recommended initiatives to curb terrorist ideology dissemination, particularly on the internet, citing the example of Saudi Arabian youth proficient in technology and social media. "Lastly, it's vital to address underlying issues. Economic challenges require economic development and job creation, while areas like Poso with historical grievances necessitate extensive reconciliation programs," he concluded. In his remarks, Head of the BNPT, Rycko Amelza Dahniel, affirmed Indonesia's resilience against open terrorist attacks throughout the previous year. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
