Jonatan Christie, the second seed in the men’s singles, was defeated by Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen in a thrilling rubber game early on Sunday morning (19/1/2025).
Jonatan took the first game 21-17, but Axelsen responded by dominating the second game 21-14. In the decisive third game, Axelsen maintained his lead and secured the win 21-15, completing the match in 1 hour and 11 minutes, according to antaranews.com.
Meanwhile, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the fourth seed in the women’s singles, fell to top seed An Se Young of South Korea.
Gregoria lost in straight games, 19-21, 16-21, in a tightly contested match that saw An Se Young maintain control throughout.
Both Indonesian players showed resilience, but ultimately their opponents proved too strong in the semifinal matches, ending their runs in the prestigious BWF Super 750 tournament.
