Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), emphasized that justice does not come from vigilante actions in response to the assault on a man identified as KD in Tabanan Regency, Bali, which resulted in his death on suspicion of stealing chickens.
He also urged the police to thoroughly investigate the alleged assault and that no perpetrator should escape legal responsibility, as human lives should not be lost due to mob anger.
"There is no tolerance for perpetrators of assault. Anyone proven to have committed or participated in the assault must be held accountable before the law," Abdullah said in Jakarta on Monday (6/27/2026).
He also requested that the local government, along with relevant ministries and institutions, immediately provide protection to KD's family, especially his wife and children.
The state, he said, must not stop at law enforcement alone but must also provide support and psychological recovery for the bereaved family.
"The state must ensure that KD's wife and children can continue to live and receive all their rights as citizens," he said.
To that end, he urged all stakeholders, local governments, relevant ministries/institutions, and law enforcement officials to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the incident.
He believes that prevention through legal and human rights education, as well as early detection of potential conflict within the community, are strategic steps to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
"Incidents like this must never happen again, not only in Bali, but throughout Indonesia. A dignified law not only provides certainty, benefit, and justice, but also protects every human life," he said.
Previously, the Tabanan Sub-regional Police Department named five suspects in the alleged assault of a man identified as KD, who allegedly stole two chickens in the Banjar Dinas Juwuk Legi sub-district, Batunya Village, Baturiti District, Tabanan, Bali. The five suspects are MJ, WS, KB, ML, and ND.
