inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Indonesian Railways (Persero) Regional Division I North Sumatra officially transitioned all of its railway operations from B40 biodiesel to BioSolar B50 starting July 5, 2026.
Anwar Yuli Prastyo, Public Relations Manager of Regional Division I North Sumatra, stated in Medan on Monday that this strategic step represents the company's concrete commitment to supporting the "Blue Sky" program and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
During the initial implementation period from July 5 to 10, 2026, KAI Regional Division I North Sumatra recorded the use of BioSolar B50 reaching 97,580 liters.
Evaluation results indicate that the transition from B40 to B50 fuel went smoothly without disrupting public services.
He explained that the implementation of biofuel was immediately implemented comprehensively to support operations, including locomotives, power trains, and other operational facilities in the North Sumatra work area.
"During the initial implementation of B50, train operations in North Sumatra's Regional Division I are running normally. KAI continues to monitor facility performance as part of its evaluation to ensure that services to customers and freight transport users remain safe, comfortable, secure, and on-time," said Anwar.
Anwar added that the scientific use of BioSolar B50 has had a significant positive impact on air quality in North Sumatra due to its significantly lower emissions compared to pure fossil fuels or previous biodiesel variants.
Anwar emphasized that KAI will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that the use of B50 not only benefits the sustainability of green energy but also ensures that railway facilities remain reliable in serving customers.
