Inp.polri.go.id - Kapuas Hulu.  The  ongoing floods in Teluk Barak, Kapuas Hulu District in West Kalimantan forced local residents to resort to using boats to access mosques for the first Ramadan night prayer, known as tarawih, on Monday evening (11/3/2024) Aldianto, a resident of Teluk Barak in the South Putussibau District of Kapuas Hulu, said, "Boats have become our go-to transportation when roads are submerged. For Tarawih prayers, most of us rely on boats to reach the mosque." According to him, flooding has persisted in Teluk Barak since Thursday, with water depths ranging from 60 centimeters to one meter. Although water levels have receded somewhat, roads in Teluk Barak remain submerged. "We're hopeful that by tomorrow, the water will fully recede, allowing community activities during Ramadan to resume normally and bring blessings," Aldianto said. Despite the challenges posed by floods, the Muslim community in Teluk Barak continues to display enthusiasm for attending Tarawih prayers at the mosque, utilizing boats for transportation. Heavy rainfall and the overflow of the Kapuas River have led to flooding in several coastal areas along the river. Gunawan, the Head of the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said that only one sub-district, Embaloh Hilir, has reported flooding thus far. Other affected areas include Putussibau Selatan in Teluk Barak, Putussibau Utara in Dogom Kota Putussibau, Mufa Village in Pala Pulau, as well as Silat Hulu, Suhaid, Silat Hilir, Mentebah, and various low-lying regions. "While flooding has started to subside in upstream areas, downstream coastal regions along the Kapuas River remain flooded due to prolonged inundation," he said. Gunawan emphasized the importance of maintaining vigilance and preparedness for extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall. Kapuas Hulu is susceptible to floods, tornadoes, and landslides, making it essential for residents to stay alert. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
