Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A Taiwanese national named Shi Yi went missing after the KM Parikudus ship capsized near Rambut Island in the Untung Jawa Island District, South Thousand Islands, on Monday (11/3/2024) at 3.30 pm local time.
Agung Priambodo, the Head of Operations Section at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Jakarta, said that the search and rescue team was still looking for the missing man, estimated to be around 40-45 years old, wearing a gray shirt, black pants, and a black hat. The KM Parikudus had a total of 31 passengers and three crew members on board, making a total of 34 individuals. Fortunately, 30 passengers and three crew members were safely accounted for, with no injuries reported. The incident took place when the KM Parikudus ship, carrying 35 passengers, including five Chinese, four Taiwanese  and one Korean, overturned near Rambut Island due to rough seas. According to Superintendent Jarot, the Chief of the Thousand Islands Police Office, the ship, owned by Asha Resort in Payung Island, was en route to Mutiara Beach, North Jakarta. He explained that severe weather conditions and high waves led to the boat capsizing.
