Inp.polri.go.id – Kupang. A wooden ship carrying 36 people from Kupang capsized after being smashed by waves on Sunday (3/10/2024) evening. No fatalities reported from the incident. The wooden ship reportedly departed from Kupang to Kera Island which is around five miles. At the middle of its journey, the ship was blasted with winds and high waves. According to the reports, Kupang Class A Search and Rescue (SAR) members immediately went to the location after hearing the news. “The incident occurred between TPI Oeba Port, Kupang, and Kera Island. They sailed to Kera Island for vacation,” said the Head of Operation, Muhdar. Furthermore, it was reported that the incident occurred at 16.15 pm. According to the reports Search and Rescue personnel immediately went with their Rigid Buoyancy Boat Armada and arrived at the scene at 17.1 pm. “The total victim of this incident is 36 people, nine were evacuated to Kupang Navigation Port, 11 were rescued by local fishermen and evacuated to Kupang Oeba Port, while 16 others were evacuated to Kera Island,” adds Muhdar. Reports state no fatalities recorded from the incident and all victims have returned to their families. (ad/ek/pr/nm)
