Inp.polri.go.id - Kediri. The Kediri City Sub-regional Police in East Java detained four students from an Islamic boarding school, better known as pesantren, in Mojo, Kediri Regency, for allegedly assaulting a junior student to death
Kediri Police Chief Superintendent Bramastyo Priaji, said that they were following up on a report from the victim's family to Glenmore Police Office in nearby Banyuwangi on Saturday (24/2/2024, antaranews.com reported.
Despite the report being filed in Banyuwangi, the Kediri Police proceeded with on-site investigations and interrogations of several witnesses.
"This incident occurred at one of the pesantren in Mojo, Kediri Regency on Friday. We have identified four suspects and have detained them for further investigation," he said on Monday (26/2/2024).
Chief Bramastyo identified the four suspects as MN (18) from Sidoarjo, MA (18) from Nganjuk Regency, AF (16) from Denpasar, Bali, and AK (17) from Surabaya.
The victim, identified by the initials BM (14), hailed from Glenmore, Banyuwangi.
The incident, he explained, occurred repeatedly, indicating a misunderstanding among the students that led to the repeated acts of violence.
Authorities are still investigating the case, including obtaining statements from the pesantren and the doctors who examined the victim's body.
The four suspects face charges under Article 80 paragraph 2 of the Child Protection Law, with a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment.
