Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI)  in Kuching is working closely with local authorities and the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) to repatriate the bodies of seven Indonesian citizens who died in a car crash in Sarawak.

According to Raden Sigit Witjaksono, the Consul General of KJRI Kuching, a traffic accident occurred on 21 November 2024, at KM 448, Betong-Meradong Road, Sarikei, Sarawak. The incident involved a Perodua Alza and a Toyota Hilux cars, resulting in the deaths of eight people, including the seven Indonesians and a local driver.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the driver of the Perodua Alza, carrying seven undocumented Indonesians, attempted to evade a police check,” said Sigit, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The repatriation cost for each body is estimated at RM12,000 (approximately Rp 42 million), which poses a challenge as the victims were not yet employed, and no employer is responsible for the repatriation.

The local police continue to investigate the incident.
