Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura.  A joint Indonesian Military (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (INP) operation led to the death of a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) in Gome District, Puncak regency, Central Papua Tengah, on Monday morning (2/12/2024).

Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, the Head of the Damai Cartenz 2024 Operations, confirmed that the gunfight began at 9.50 am local time when KKB members fired on security forces.

“Our troops responded, killing Jelek Waker, a KKB member. His body has been evacuated to Ilaga Regional Hospital,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The body was later handed over to the family for burial through the Acting Regent of Puncak.

Security forces are on high alert for potential retaliation from the KKB.

“We ask the public to stay calm but remain vigilant and to leave security matters to the authorities,” Faizal added.

Puncak Regency, covering 8,055 square kilometers, includes 25 districts and 206 villages. It borders Mamberamo Raya to the north, Mimika to the south, Intan Jaya to the west, and Puncak Jaya to the east.
