Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Damai Cartenz Task Force arrested Yekis Wanimbo, also known as Salahmakan Tabuni, a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) from Puncak, Papua, who had altered his appearance in an attempt to evade detection.
According to Brig. Gen. Faizal Rahmadani, Head of Operations for Task Force Damai Cartenz, Wanimbo was apprehended in Timika, Central Papua, on June 10. He had shaved his hair and beard to avoid identification by authorities.
Wanimbo reportedly planned to meet an individual named Yoyakim Mujizau, who is currently under investigation. Authorities are also investigating his role in arms trafficking and funding networks linked to the KKB faction led by Numbuk Telenggen.
He confessed to owning a Pindad-manufactured revolver (serial number AE S 030190), which was later recovered from Utikini Village, Tembagapura District, and secured at the Gakkum Mimika post on June 11.
Wanimbo, born February 1, 1994 in Ilaga, Puncak Regency, is registered as a farmer and gold panner in Kali Kuluk, Tembagapura. Proceeds from his gold panning activities are suspected to have been used to finance KKB operations, including weapon purchases.
He also played a role in the 2021 arson attack on PT Unggul facilities in Puncak, Faizal added.
