Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) Chairperson, Atnike Nova Sigiro, appreciated the government's commitment as a State Party to the UN Human Rights Committee on Civil and Political Rights issues.
The government's periodic reporting on the implementation of the Civil and Political Rights Covenant was seen as crucial for promoting and protecting these rights in Indonesia.
Atnike highlighted that Komnas HAM had submitted its second periodic report on the implementation of the Civil and Political Rights Covenant in Indonesia on 11 March 2024, as reported by antaranews.com.
The UN Human Rights committee suggested the government empower Komnas HAM to conduct surprise inspections at detention centers nationwide, necessitating the establishment of legal norms regulating Komnas HAM's authority.
The UN Human Rights Committee recommended that suspects or defendants accused of terrorism be afforded legal protection, the revision of death penalty regulations, regular training for law enforcement officers and ensuring clean elections.
