Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has taken strict action against eight Indonesian players, including lifetime bans, due to their involvement in betting and match-fixing, as reported by antaranews.com.
According to a statement on BWF's official website on Sunday (31/3/2024), the affected players are:
Hendra Tandjaya (men's doubles, mixed doubles)
Ivandi Danang (men's doubles, mixed doubles)
Androw Yunanto (men's singles and doubles)
Sekartaji Putri (women's singles, mixed doubles)
Mia Mawarti (women's singles and doubles)
Fadilla Afni (mixed doubles)
Aditiya Dwiantoro (men's doubles)
Agriprinna Prima Rahmanto Putra (men's singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles)
Hendra Tandjaya, Ivandi Danang, and Androw Yunanto face lifetime bans from all badminton activities. Sekartaji Putri is banned until 18 January 2032, and fined $12,000.
Similarly, Mia Mawarti and Fadilla Afni are prohibited from participating in badminton until 18 January 2030, with a fine of $10,000 each.
Aditiya Dwiantoro is banned until 2027 and fined $7,000, while Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra is suspended until 18 January 2026, and fined $3,000.
These sanctions came as a response to allegations made against the players in 2021.
The BWF emphasizes that these players are prohibited from competing in any events. In addition to the Indonesian players, the BWF has also sanctioned two Malaysian players, one player from Brunei Darussalam, and one player from India for similar issues or allegations.
