Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Commissioner of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) Poengky Indarti pushed for greater engagement of police women (Polwan) in conflict resolution as peace agents, with a focus on cultural approaches, especially in regions like Papua.

She called on Sunday (21/4/2024) the Indonesian National Police (INP) to gradually boost police women recruitment, aiming for them to constitute 30% of total personnel by 2045.

This call came amidst a rise in domestic violence, sexual crimes, and human trafficking.

Currently, Polwan comprises only six percent of INP personnel, the lowest in Southeast Asia.

Commissioner Poengky stressed the importance of having Polwan in all INP units, from police stations to regional leadership roles. She advocated for equal opportunities for Polwan in strategic and high-ranking positions, noting the absence of a female regional police chief since Brigadier General Rumiah Kartoredjo.

She also emphasized Polwan's potential to lead units and underscored the need for their protection, given their vulnerability to violence.
