Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Commissioner of Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Kawiyan saw government needs to establish a regulation that guarantees valid information for kids, in preventing them from being exposed to dangerous content.
“Everyone can make their own content or news without the needs of confirmation and filtered, and this could have been exposed to the children. This means we need valid and confirmed information. Which led the necessity for Kominfo to make a regulation that would guarantee safe information for the kids,” says Kawiyan on Wednesday (11/22/2023).
According to him, the law or other regulation involving child protection from pornography has been long existed although it is not thoroughly covers all potential threat. Some regulation in certain issues needs an update with more comprehensive.
He reminds that current generations, particularly those who are tech savvy, are potentially exposed to pornography in digital spaces.
“Our children amassed around 37,7 million. Among those numbers, 88.9 percent are those who are 5-17 years old accessed the internet for surfing in social media,” says Kawiyan.
KPAI noted that cases of children who were victims of pornography and cybercrimes were in fifth place in the special child protection cluster. According to the commission, from January to October 2023, there are 25 of those cases reported.
In their response, KPAI have monitored several cases in the sub-cluster of pornography and cybercrimes victims, one of which is the case of sexual exploitation through video call in Central Lampung.
Kawiyan also warned that children who live outside Java is not guaranteed for being safe from the threat of negative impact of the communication tech, as they still found several cases in other regions.
