Landslide in Padang Lawas Leaves Four Dead

Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. A deadly landslide struck Harang Julu Village, Ulu Sosa District, Padang Lawas regency in North Sumatra, early Saturday (23/11/2024), claiming four lives and severely damaging two homes.

Padang Lawas regency Secretary Arpan Nasution confirmed that heavy rainfall triggered the disaster. 

“The victims were buried under the landslide debris, with some residents sustaining injuries,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com

The victims, identified as Hermandianto (40), Lila Siregar (32), Azra (7), and Dwi (a toddler), were all from the same family. 

“Another family managed to escape and is currently receiving medical treatment,” Arpan added.

Emergency teams, including the military, the police, the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and health workers, have been deployed to rescue survivors and clear debris. 

Local authorities have also been also enhancing disaster preparedness measures to prevent further incidents.

One house was completely destroyed in the landslide, while another was severely damaged. Arpan urged residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant..
