Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Four regencies in West Sumatra have been struck by devastating floods and flash floods, claiming a person dead, sweeping away another and causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.
Ilham, the spokesperson for the West Sumatra Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said on Saturday (23/11/2024) that the floods affected Limapuluh Kota, Pasaman, Agam, and Sijunjung regencies.
In Limapuluh Kota, flash floods resulted in one death, with another person still unaccounted for. Floodwaters also disrupted the Padang-Pekanbaru highway in Nagari Pangkalan, damaging several homes and sweeping away an ambulance. Hundreds of hectares of agricultural land were also submerged, according to antaranews.com.
In Pasaman, six villages were affected, with hundreds of homes and farmlands submerged.
Sijunjung saw a major impact as floods severed access to around 4,000 residents in Nagari Aie Amo.
Local authorities are working to assist those affected, with personnel and equipment on standby. The floodwaters are receding, and recovery efforts continue.
