Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Erick Thohir, the President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), has sent a letter to Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, requesting increased funding to support the development of Indonesian football.
“Hopefully, this will help our long-term programs for 2025,” he said at Bali United Training Center in Gianyar, Bali, on Saturday (23/11/2024).
Erick, who is also Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, shared that President Prabowo Subianto had committed to increasing the national budget for football from Rp 120 billion to over Rp 200 billion.
However, he noted that PSSI cannot rely entirely on the state budget due to competing fiscal priorities. The funding will support key programs, including World Cup and Asia Cup qualifications, according to antaranews.com.
PSSI is also securing private sector support, with 19 sponsors backing the national team.
“We don’t want 100% of PSSI’s funding from the government,” Erick added, emphasizing the importance of public support, including ticket sales, to motivate the national teams.
