Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A Latvian national was arrested in Bali for drug trafficking after entering Indonesia on a tourist visa at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasart on 22 July 2024,

The National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) in Bali confirmed that the suspect, identified as  Vladimir S. or VS, is part of an international drug network from a former Soviet state as suggested by the tattoos on his body, according to antaranews.com.

Senior Superintendent I Made Sinar Subawa, the BNNP  Bali Head of Eradication, explained on Tuesday (17/9/2024) that VS had been ordered to deliver drugs in Indonesia but did not know the intended recipient.

Customs officers discovered 450.41 grams of hashish from Nepal and 977.83 grams of marijuana from Thailand hidden in his luggage. Hashish, a drug derived from cannabis resin, is often used recreationally and can be more potent than marijuana.

VS faces charges under the narcotics laws, with a potential life sentence or imprisonment of 5 to 20 years.
