Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Bitung, North Sulawesi, on Thursday morning (9/7/2026). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the marine seismic event occurred at approximately 8.16 am, with the tremor's epicenter located in the waters northeast of the port city.

According to the official bulletin released on BMKG's social media platforms, the earthquake's coordinates were recorded at 1.52 North Latitude and 126.33 East Longitude. The agency's automated tracking systems placed the center of the disturbance roughly 134 kilometers northeast of Bitung, originating at a moderate depth of 30 kilometers.

"This information prioritizes speed, meaning the results of data processing are not yet fully stable and may change as additional data becomes available," BMKG noted in its early real-time disclaimer.

There were no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties, and the tremor did not trigger any tsunami alerts.
