Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A shallow magnitude 4.9 earthquake rattled the regency of Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi, on Thursday morning (9/7/2026). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the seismic event occurred at approximately 8.09 am, with the epicenter located in the waters southwest of the region.
According to data released via BMKG’s official social media channels, the earthquake’s coordinates were mapped at 3.78 South Latitude and 119.02 East Longitude. This positions the center of the tremor roughly 50 kilometers southwest of Polewali Mandar at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.
"This information prioritizes speed, so the results of data processing are not yet stable and could change as more data becomes available," BMKG noted in an official disclaimer accompanying the early real-time bulletin.
No immediate damages or casualties were reported, and authorities have not issued a tsunami warning.
