Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Poso, Central Sulawesi, on Sunday (17/8/2025) at 5.38 am local time, according to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

“The epicenter was located 18 kilometers northwest of Poso at a depth of 20 kilometers, with coordinates 1.30°S and 120.62°E,” BMKG reported on its official website, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

The agency confirmed that despite the strength of the quake, there is no tsunami threat.

BMKG urged residents to remain cautious of potential aftershocks, avoid damaged or unstable buildings, and follow instructions from local authorities. It also warned the public not to be misled by unverified information.

So far, no official reports of casualties or structural damage have been issued. Indonesia lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it highly prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity.
